Designing a Home for a Global Church Family
When I first joined the CGN team, they were on the rise, a growing family of churches with a bold mission. But their digital presence hadn’t caught up.
The message was right, the theology was solid, but the way it all lived online? It wasn’t telling the story clearly, and it definitely wasn’t serving their scope.
I had the joy of stepping in as Content Strategy Director, and over the course of several years, I helped lead the charge to rebuild CGN’s online ecosystem from the ground up.
Not just one site, but 10+ interconnected web properties, each crafted to reflect the same heart: gospel-centered renewal, relationship, and resourcing.
For this case study, I’ll focus on the CGN Website itself!
01Before: The Raw Material Was There, But the Story Wasn’t

When I came onboard, CGN’s web presence was functional, but fragmented.
Over the course of that work, I built 10+ websites across the wider CGN ecosystem, supporting the network itself along with connected ministries and initiatives. The challenge was bigger than redesigning one homepage. Each project needed its own purpose and identity while still feeling part of a coherent family.
Messaging was unclear, design was generic, and most of the systems were hard to manage.
My former boss, Kellen Criswell, brought me in to help reimagine the whole thing, visually, strategically, and theologically. Someone needed to take the wild vision and tame it into a cohesive, clear brand and network website that served both the staff team, and the pastors and leaders we were trying to reach.
We needed structure. Clarity. Alignment.
And a digital home that reflected CGN’s unique identity.
02What We Do: A Clear Framework for a Kingdom Mission

We made an intentional decision early on to organize CGN’s core work around three pillars:
- Renewal
- Relationship
- Resourcing
This gave us a strong content architecture to build from, and it also gave visitors a clear answer to the question: What does CGN actually do?
Every part of the site ties back to these core convictions.
The typography and visual spacing give each section weight and room to breathe, while the messaging remains concise and ministry-focused.
03Beliefs Page: Theological Clarity, Beautifully Framed

Beliefs matter. And too often, they’re buried in dense, hard-to-navigate walls of text. I wanted CGN’s theological distinctives to be clear, beautiful, and accessible, not just for new visitors, but for network churches looking to align.
Each belief is cleanly sectioned, supported with Scripture references, and styled to invite actual reading.
04Initiatives Page: Showcasing the Lifeblood of the Network

CGN is more than a collection of churches, it’s a hub of strategic ministry initiatives.
From care and coaching to church planting and expositor training, I designed this section to spotlight each initiative with visual emphasis and narrative clarity.
Each one links to its own microsite or resource hub, and the layout makes it easy to explore the breadth of CGN’s impact without getting overwhelmed.
05Education Page: Partnerships That Strengthen Leaders

One of CGN’s strengths is its global network of Bible colleges, partnerships with seminaries, and training programs. I wanted to give those space to shine.
This section lays out the paths available for theological formation and formal training, whether you’re a young church planter or a seasoned pastor pursuing deeper education.
The goal was not to just list schools. We wanted to frame opportunity!
06Resources Page: A Global Network of Content, At Your Fingertips

Across CGN, pastors and leaders are constantly creating high-value resources, articles, podcasts, sermons, training materials, and most of it was getting lost in the shuffle.
To fix that, I designed a modular resource grid that makes everything browsable by topic.
It’s clean, scalable, and easy to update, with categories for everything from theology to youth ministry.
It’s not just a content dump . It’s a library.
07Leadership Page: Showing the Faces Behind the Vision

For a network built on relationship, it was important to show the people, not just describe the org.
We built a dedicated leadership page to introduce the executive team and initiative leads.
Simple bios, clean photos, and direct connection points. The visual layout humanizes the leadership without bloating the page with filler.
08Relief Fund Page: Speed, Simplicity, and Real-Time Response

One of the most moving parts of this project was helping CGN build the infrastructure for their relief fund system.
When crises hit, like Ukraine, CGN was ready to help.
But they needed a way to mobilize resources fast.
I helped design a focused, flexible template that could be deployed instantly for any region or emergency. The Ukraine version went live quickly and supported multiple ongoing updates and relief donation collection.
09Core Values Section: Making the DNA Visual

Rather than bury CGN’s values in a mission statement wall, we built out a dedicated visual section that walks visitors through each one with clarity.
Icons, headers, and short bursts of explanatory copy make the values easy to skim but substantial enough to reflect real theological weight.
10Events & Conference System: No-Code Simplicity, High Impact

CGN hosts dozens of gatherings, conferences, and training events every year. At one point, trying to manage this manually through WordPress was overwhelming the team.
So I built a custom no-code system using Airtable that allows any team member, from a director to an admin assistant, to input events via a simple spreadsheet.
From there, the event listing is automatically deployed across the website without even logging into WordPress once.
This system has saved countless hours and made event updates lightning fast.
11Final Thought
For me, this wasn’t just a design project. It was a multi-year collaboration with a ministry I believed in.
I didn’t come in with a template, I came in to listen, help clarify the vision, and then build a digital structure that serves that vision at every level.
From branding and messaging, to no-code systems and scalable UI design, I got to help CGN create a web presence as intentional, relational, and gospel-focused as the network itself.
I am extremely grateful for my time with CGN.
It was full of many unique UI/UX, branding, and design challenges, which helped me grow immensely as a creative and strategist.
